“My jaw dropped when I first saw the letter. The IRS forgave over $50,000 in tax debt that we owed!”

That’s Theresa from San Bernadino, CA. about 7 years ago, her and her husband, Dan, had started a landscaping business. It was doing well, business was booming, and things were great.

They had over 11 employees, hundreds of happy customers and were doing well.

But then it all started to go wrong...

A few bad employees, jobs going south, and other things forced them to close down the business. They went from making great money, to barely being able to get by.

The problems kept on coming, and they started getting letters from the IRS, about the back tax debt they owed.

"When that first letter came in, my stomach dropped. I couldn't sleep for a few weeks. Now the government was coming after us too!"

While business was booming, they spent all their time focused on running it. They had neglected to file their personal taxes, and didn't pay federal income tax.

A few years went by and they didn't realize it was an issue, but all of the sudden, the IRS came knocking... and wanted a lot more than the amount they owed.

The IRS wanted a lot more than Dan and Theresa expected

When people fail to file their taxes, the IRS files a replacement return for them (1). But this return does not claim any deductions or tax credits that most people are entitled to.

That means the IRS says they owe a lot more than they actually do.

The IRS then starts to add on penalties and interest. Often this causes the amount they owe to go up by thousands each year.

That's exactly what happened to Theresa and Dan. They only owed the IRS $42,100 in taxes, but when everything added on the IRS said they owed $56,843.

Now they found themselves without a business, no income, and a huge tax debt owed to the IRS.

They thought they would be forced to file Bankruptcy, or have their house taken away.

A New Hope - New Programs Available for 55+

They started to research their options online, and were not impressed by a lot of the companies the found.

They reached out to one of the highest rated tax law firms they could find online - National Tax.

Dan and Theresa talked about all the hardship they went through, and how paying this large amount would be very hard to do.

They were told about new tax programs available from the IRS they might qualify for. These new programs were created by the IRS to try to collect anything they can from people. Some of these programs include:

  • Fresh Start Program
  • Offer in Compromise
  • Penalty Abatement
  • Currently Not Collectable

The IRS will often settle for much less than the person owes, to try and collect something.

IRS Writes Off Over $110 Billion in Uncollectible Tax Debt Every Year

According to a study posted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the IRS writes off over $110 Billion in unpaid tax debt every year (2).

They consider that $110 Billion as "Uncollectible".

That means that for people who owe back taxes, some or all of their debt could be legally forgiven. That's exactly what happened to Theresa and Dan.

Theresa and Dan Only Had to Pay $1,042

After negotiating with the IRS, Theresa and Dan's tax law firm was able to get them an offer in compromise agreement.

Instead of having to pay $56,843, they only had to pay $1,042.

The rest of that $55,801 was legally wiped off their slate.

Now they are working on rebuilding their lives, and starting another landscaping company. They plan on doing things differently the 2nd time around, and not getting behind on tax debts.
